MAINTENANCE TIPS

We have found that sharing these automobile maintenance tips with our customers leads to a prolonged lifespan with fewer visits to your local repair facility.

  1. 1

Read your vehicle owner’s manual for specific maintenance recommendations.

  2. 2

Tires should be rotated approximately every 7,500 miles in order to reduce uneven wear. If you notice that your vehicle seems to “pull” to one side or the other while you are driving, please check your tire alignment.

  3. 3

Your brake pads should be replaced about every 10,000 to 20,000 miles, and your rotors should be replaced roughly every 50,000 to 70,000 miles. The brake fluid should be replaced around every 45,000 miles as well.

  4. 4

Consistently changing your engine’s oil is critical to the overall health of your vehicle. Manufacturers generally recommend changing the oil every 3,000 miles. Technicians recommend changing your engine coolant about every 30,000 miles if you use silicate coolant, or every 100,000 miles if you use extended drain coolant. You can tell which type of coolant to use by the color, silicate is usually green whereas extended drain coolants are usually orange or gold.

  5. 5

You should replace the transmission fluid approximately every 30,000 to 50,000 miles if you drive a vehicle with a manual transmission. If your vehicle has an automatic transmission then you should consider replacing the fluid every 60,000 to 100,000 miles.

  6. 6

Power steering fluid should be changed about every 70,000 to 100,000 miles.

  7. 7

Most mechanics would agree that car batteries can generally last 3 to 4 years, but if you notice that your headlights are dimming or it takes a few attempts to start your car then you should consider replacing it.

  8. 8

It’s generally advised to change your air filter every 15,000 to 30,000 miles or about once every year. This could improve your gas mileage!
